OIATC Ontario Indigenous AI & Technology Council

For funders and partners

Fund shipped work.

We are early and honest about it. Everything on this site exists and is dated. Here is the theory of change, what each program needs, and how the arrangement works while we incorporate.

Theory of change

When communities choose and govern their digital systems, the systems fit. When the systems fit, services and language outcomes improve. We exist to make the first part true.

The three programs, and what funding unlocks

Each program has shipped work behind it. Each ask is concrete.

Anishinaabemowin · $25,000 / $120,000

$25k pilots the first doll batch and a season of story nights. $120k funds a year of the program lead and Elder honoraria.

Anokii · regional rollout

Two OIATC-run reference vantages are running. Funding extends Anokii along the North Shore, from Sault Ste. Marie to Sudbury to Manitoulin, each Nation governing its own instance.

Community knowledge · more topics and communities

The explainers are used by members and local press. Funding maintains them as living resources and extends them to more communities and topics.

Legal status, stated plainly

OIATC is incorporating as a not-for-profit corporation. Until that completes, partnership funds will be held under a trusteeship arrangement we name here before we accept anything. We will not take institutional funds without naming the arrangement that holds them.

Help that is not money

Some of what we need most cannot be bought.

  • One more arm's-length director as we incorporate.
  • A Nation ready to be a first partner.
  • A legal or policy advisor with experience in Indigenous data governance.
